U.S. Charles Manson cult follower Leslie Van Houten should be paroled, appeals court rules
May 30, 2023 / 6:02 PM / AP
A California appeals court said Tuesday that Leslie Van Houten, who participated in two killings at the direction of cult leader Charles Manson in 1969, should be let out of prison on parole.
The appellate court's ruling reverses an earlier decision by Gov. Gavin Newsom to reject parole for Van Houten in 2020. She has been recommended for parole five times since 2016. All of those recommendations were rejected by either Newsom or former California Gov. Jerry Brown, with the latest such rejection coming in March of 2022.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta could ask the California Supreme Court to stop her release. Neither his office nor Newsom's immediately responded to requests for comment on whether they would do so.

I say, yes. It’s the right time. She is in her mid seventies now. I doubt if she’s still that dangerous.
In fact, I am also in favor of Sirhan Sirhan being released, allowing him to return to his family in Syria.
Since these two were not sentenced to death at that time, there is not much more to be gained by continuing to house them at this stage of their lives. A few decades ago, this was not my opinion at all.
I was trying to give Charlie Manson his breakfast one morning, and he told me I would be getting paid in rubles soon. I didn’t know what to say, but my partners get a good laugh about it.

Oops
Angela Davis has been out for decades.
Observed, studied and recorded in the MK Ultra program and its related studies, which were all intentionally destroyed.
Lots of drugs and listening to Charlie
Guilty by association
She stabbed Rosemary LaBianca 14 times.
I pulled the list off wiki
I don't know about all that. I only point it out in the interest of accuracy. People should know what they are talking about when they speak or write, in this case.
I'm not a soft on crime guy. Van Houten should have gotten the death penalty. Before you say she did, no she didn't. Her original conviction was overturned. In her third trial she was convicted of felony murder and given 7 years to life. Second trail was a hung jury.
I'm pro death penalty. In fact I think it should be expanded. For example, if a person walks into a convenience store and points a gun at the clerk, that person just committed a death penalty offense. The only way to reduce violent crime is to execute violent criminals.
You forgot Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson, there are a couple of interviews from 1968/69 where he talks about Manson as his guru and living at Spahn’s Ranch with 14 girls and sex with 15 year olds. Hollywood and the music industry has been messed up for a long, long time.
I may not be in the majority, but I think this one is ok.
Nope....she should be denied...and I don’t care if she projects herself now as rehabilitated. What they did was atrocious and cruel to say the least.
She should die in jail just like Charlie did.
Leslie Van Houten held down the La Bianca woman while she was being stabbed. She certainly participated willingly and with intent therefore prison is exactly where Van Houten should remain for the rest of her life.
She was originally on death row but her sentence got commuted to life in prison (California getting rid of the death penalty). Sh needs to stay wher she is and be grateful she has life.
Very different time. Very different scenarios.
