I was 16 and my parents and I went to NYC for it. My uncle was with PanAm and they had a viewing party half-way up one of the Twin Towers overlooking the river with all the ships on parade. And then the fireworks show!
Later that week we took our small runabout into the harbor and cruised around the ships at anchor. It was quite the memory.
I was 15.
Spent the day at my step-grandparent’s camping trailer on the banks of the Mississippi River. I remember some of the TV daily check-in coverage was of Altoona IA - and my dad commenting that most people probably thought it was rural, but it is actually Des Moines suburb.
One particular observation I had... there were no protests of any significance that day. It was then I decided that, yes, the 1960s were truly over.
