This article appeared in the New Yorker, which is a pro-Ukraine magazine. None the less they portray an extremely grim situation for the Ukrainian army.

It is clear that elite opinion (which the New Yorker, the Atlantic, and Foreign Affairs dutifully express) is beginning to shift and people are being slowly accustomed to the idea of Ukraine losing the war.

I disagree with your premise. No change in magazines attitudes toward Ukraine is apparent:
