I almost got to go back in 67 or 69 (I was 6 or 7 at the time) with My Brother and We were going to drive from Old Bridge, NJ to Indy in His 64 Pontiac GTO Convertible 389 Tripower but when He had the local Mechanic check it out for the road trip the Left A-Frame was cracked and He didn't have the $$$ to fix that and get Us to the Race and back. I'm not sure who was more devastated between the two of Us. The rest of the month of May took forever that year.
It looked just like this. He still looks back and asks Himself why he didn't keep it.
