Vladimir Putin’s troops were ridiculed online this week after footage appeared to catch two Russian soldiers stealing a watch from their fallen colleague, RadarOnline.com has learned.
The surprising video was posted to Twitter on Tuesday by Ukrainian activist Serhii Sternenko and was reportedly recorded in the Ukrainian town of Vuhledar sometime last week.
According to the footage posted online, the two Russian troops in question are seen approaching their fallen colleague and putting down their weapons before removing something from the deceased soldier’s wrist.
The two Russian fighters are then recorded running away in opposite directions after apparently spotting the drone hovering above them.
“Exclusive from the 72nd Brigade of the Black Zaporozhets,” Sternenko wrote alongside the startling footage. “Another Russian died in the Vugledarsky direction. His friend decided not to take the body, but to take his watch. And ran away.”
Although the graphic footage has not yet been independently verified, a number of Twitter users rushed to the post to criticize and ridicule Putin’s two soldiers caught on video as they seemingly stole their colleague’s watch.
“They can’t help it,” wrote one user, “it’s their nature.”
“Marauders of Moscow…” wrote another.
“Vanyushka, my friend! I want to have a good memory of you!” quipped a third Twitter commenter. “Damn, where did you stuff your wallet?”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the startling footage posted online this week came as Putin’s “special military operation” in Ukraine continues to escalate after more than 15 months of fighting.
Ukrainian intelligence sources recently estimated that Putin lost more than 100,000 troops in the battle for Bakhmut alone, with at least 20,000 of those soldiers confirmed dead.
Meanwhile, the 70-year-old Russian leader’s forces fighting in other parts of Ukraine are reportedly suffering from ammunition shortages, lack of proper weaponry, and inadequate supplies.
“In late February 2023, Russian mobilized reservists described being ordered to assault a Ukrainian concrete strong point armed with only firearms and shovels,” the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense reported in March.
“One of the reservists described being neither ‘physically nor psychologically’ prepared for the action,” the report continued. “Recent evidence suggests an increase in close combat in Ukraine.”
Russian soldiers have also reportedly complained that the ammo and weaponry they receive are too “rusty” and “disintegrated” to be used in the ongoing war.
Mearsheimers Latest Talk On The War In Ukraine
Yesterday the well known international relations scholar John Mearsheimer gave a talk (video, 1:33h) about the war in Ukraine to the Committee for the Republic.
Mearsheimer made two major points:
Ukraine can not win this war because the kill ratio in this war is in its disfavor. Mearheimer estimates that two Ukrainians die for one Russian soldier but says that many of his friends think that the ratio is more like 3:1 or 4:1. The reason for this is the WWI-style static war in which artillery is the most deadly weapon. Russia has an immense artillery advantage. During an offensive the attacker will often have more casualties than the defender. But in this war the Ukraine side has been (counter-)attacked most of the time while the Russians defended.
The Ukraine also has a much smaller population than Russia. The current ratio is about 5 Russians for 1 Ukrainian. With a much smaller population and much higher casualties the Ukraine will run out of able bodies way before Russia does.
Mearsheimer expects that Russia, which already has incorporated four Ukrainian oblast plus Crimea, will take another four oblast from Ukraine. (I predicted this on February 24 2022, the day the war began. Those eight oblast plus Crimea are historically Russian land inhabited by Russian people. During the last thirty years they have consistently voted for pro-Russian candidates while the people in west Ukraine consistently opted for anti-Russian candidates.) Ukraine will end up as a dysfunctional (and poor) rump state.
