I also am one of the few I guess, who thought that Janis Joplin was vastly overrated as a singer too. Neither of those had much in the way of dynamics IMO, dynamics meaning you could sing sweetly and nice and then bust out when it was appropriate, their niche was just raw hard screaming, yelling vocals, sure they were both very talented and pleased millions of people, they just weren't my 'cup of tea' so to speak.

Just so you know, since it's pertinent to the conversation, I've been an onstage rock and roll performer myself since I was a young man, starting when I was about 16. I guess you would call me a semi pro, since I've always held a day job too, but I made a lot of side money doing my thing on stage and I have what seems like a million stage hours under my belt.

I'm just throwing my opinion out there for all that care to read. I know that, and 3 bucks, will buy you a cup of coffee and that's all.

Well, like I said, everyone has different tastes. I, for one, cannot fathom how the execrable rap crap/hip hop garbage has managed to last 40 years without giving way to something less horrible and violent (and deadly), which brings out the absolute worst in Black culture (and as I’ve told others, “aspiring rapper” seems to be a frequent vocation of folks I see listed on obit rolls under the age of 30. Yet, you never see one for an “aspiring adult contemporary singer.” Such are the times in which we live).

In any event, I was going to suggest initially that if you weren’t a fan of Tina Turner’s performance style, probably not the best to air your opinion in an obit/appreciation thread. However, when Bette Midler buys it, please feel free to let loose, because she will definitely deserve it. Of course, there will be a long line of folks waiting to pay their (dis)respects.
