Reflexively, I tended to agree with pro-DDT views that were long popular in conservative opinion journals like National Review and American Spectator. Eventually though, in the early 90s, I took a weekend and read the most current scientific research at the local university library. I quickly realized that DDT and other pesticides and industrial organic chemicals that persisted in the environment ranged from suspect to genuinely harmful.
