I think this might be due to the fact that both nations endured 80 years of a morality-wrecking, soul-destroying, murderous ideology. That helps to explain why nearly every Youcraynian and Ruzzzziiiaaann (and for that matter Eastern European - except for Poles) I've met or worked with was boorish, bolshie and obsessed with money and bling.

It seemed that everything, and I mean everything, was for sale with these folks, it was just a matter of price. And the level of over-the-top boozing with them was epic. Gross.
