Congress Must Not Restrict First Amendment Rights
New American Prophet ^ | May 17, 2023 | Jeff Crouere

Posted on 05/17/2023 8:54:20 AM PDT by Rev M. Bresciani

The First Amendment is the essential foundation for our nation’s greatness, guaranteeing Americans our precious freedoms that are denied in so many countries. Thus, it is disturbing to behold a bi-partisan group of politicians advocating a big government attempt to restrict the First Amendment in a disastrous piece of legislation called the RESTRICT ACT.

First Amendment Rights, you mean like those practiced by patriots on January 6, 2021?

“Must not??” How about CAN NOT. There is such a thing as the Constitution. Whether or not they choose to abide by it is an entirely different matter.

How is it so hard to understand? Banning Tik Tok is the first step in banning the 1st. They WILL NOT STOP at just Tik Tok, they will rush right over to ban the FreeRepublic and all others they do not approve of...

“TikTok is a Chinese SPY app!!”

Yes it is... But are you willing to have every “controversial” Conservative, Christian, Hunting, Etc. websites banned too?

Is banning Tik Tok worth that huge sacrifice? Are you willing to give it all away just for Tik Tok? Do you actually think they are just going to ban only Tik Tok? Oh no... This is a fishing trip with a huge net.

Trust me, they are just waiting for us to be that stupid. Because if we allow this bill to pass, or anything like it, you can say goodby to any and all websites the government “Does not approve of” like the FreeRepublic...

Personally I do not want to give up and sacrifice the FreeRepublic to ban Tik Tok. Seriously do you?

Sorry, I cannot agree with you. I have heard this same argument against this, that or the other thing that is really really bad ad nauseum for most of the 70+ years of my life — if we do ban whatever it is, then we can ban everything.

So we are in the mess we are in because we seem to be unable to stop whatever horrible thing the left is doing in the name of the Bill of Rights.

However, this is suicide. Evil practices, evil ideas, and evil people must be stopped because if we don’t, then eventually we will lose what it is that we are seeking to protect.

For example, I remember back in the day, when our state legislature (as I remember) was trying to do something about pornography and your argument was made — if we try to prevent the publication/sale of pornography, then we can ban the bible, etc. So the pornography industry flourishes and gets more and more invasive; now our society accepts perversions of all sorts.

Or another example: Allowing leftist doctrines in our schools, communist agitators on our campuses, etc., all in the name of free speech. But what do you think is going to happen when they win? No more free speech; in fact you could end up in a concentration camp or even be killed, if you express an opinion contrary to the powers that be. We are near that point now.

Freedom of speech should not need to be “protected” to the point of suicide. Those who would speak to overthrow our culture, our way of life, our freedom and our prosperity do not deserve and should not receive the protections of that free society — if we allow this corruption and poison to grow and grow, eventually it will overtake us, and all that we are and all that we have will be lost.

Our protections of Bill of Rights, the birthright of every American citizen should be granted only protect to those who would honor and preserve the Bill of Rights, those who would use the Bill of Rights (i.e., the ChiComs who own Tik-Tok and have no respect for freedom of any kind) should be banned.

That is the standard we should use — those who would destroy our country do not deserve and should not receive the protections of the Bill of Rights.

Ban them now, or watch them ban all that we hold dear.

I don’t want to be spied on—especially not by Chinese commies and other totalitarians!!!!

The Trump administration banned TikTok. But they did not go onto ban other platforms, not even Google (which also spies on us, but only for internal purposes). So if a new Trump administration is elected, and bans TikTok. not to worry! (I do worry about Google, however.)

“So if a new Trump administration is elected, and bans TikTok. not to worry!”

And if he doesn’t? And will Trump be President forever? Never a President or administration that will abuse it like the current one who will abuse it just as soon as they can to beat Trump?

No... It is playing with fire... It is not worth risking all our 1st amendment rights on the internet just to shut down that one. And you can bet that even after they get the law passed they will still not shut down Tik Tok.

“Thanks fools, you just handed us the government full control of the internet.”
