Prince Harry and Meghan and her mother were involved in a "near catastrophic car chase" involving paparazzi photographers, a spokesperson for the prince has said.
The incident lasted over two hours and resulted in multiple near collisions, the spokesperson said.
“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers,” they added.
“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone's safety.
“Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all in involved.”
It followed Meghan’s attendance at Tuesday night’s Ms Foundation for Women’s 50th anniversary gala event in Manhattan with her husband, Prince Harry, and mother Doria Ragland.

Isn’t LA’s system optimized to go into action when a car chase happens? The logistics have to have been worked out in advance so they’re prepared for long flights out of their normal working area.
NYC seems more geared to hovering above an event, so it’s doubtful the level of video they’ll get there will be as good as what the pair would generate in LA, but the NYC video will probably get better play as being more unusual. Also it would probably be less dangerous for HM than driving faster and longer in LA.
But at some point, it will also generate some real spoofs and memes off the ridiculousness of bodyguards, who should know better, bothering to try to lose paparazzi.
A two hour car chase.... It makes no sense. Did Hollywood set up cameras in helicopters.
Stop the car, let them take pictures and be on your way If anyone got hurt, it would be everyone’s fault.
nypd issued low key statement confirming they cooperated with Harkles security- that there were challenges - but all arrived safely, no arrests, no collisions, etc. i suggest the Harkles learn that it’s much smarter to give the paps their free shots so they can pay the bills. this event was well publicized so everyone knew where they were.
