This weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola will not go ahead after extreme weather resulted in flooding in the local area, Formula One announced on Wednesday.
F1 held meetings with local authorities and the race promoter on Wednesday before agreeing the event could not proceed safely.
"The decision has been taken because it is not possible to safely hold the event for our fans, the teams and our personnel and it is the right and responsible thing to do given the situation faced by the towns and cities in the region," F1 said in a statement.
"It would not be right to put further pressure on the local authorities and emergency services at this difficult time."
The Grand Prix was due to be the sixth round of the season and the first of three races in a row, with events in Monaco and Spain due to take place over the following two weekends.
Heavy rainfall in the area resulted in flooding on Tuesday night, leading to concerns the Santerno river, which runs adjacent to the Imola circuit, would overflow. The circuit was evacuated as a precaution earlier on Tuesday following a red weather alert warning of floods and landslides in the area.

no race this weekend
Looks like bad floods around Bologna.
Sixteen years ago, our daughter (in high school) studied in that region of Italy. When we visited her and her host family, I took my son on a side trip to Modena (northwest of Bologna) to visit the Ferrari Museum. What a fantastic museum! If you are ever in Italy, be sure to go. My son still talks about it and is a big F1 fan to this day.
Even G-D hates what’s become of Formula 1 (and I can’t blame him).
Bummer.
Last year we had some very bad flooding in my neck of the woods, SW Montana.
The first link shows bridges and homes floating down the Yellowstone River, the second is from the National Park Service showing damage to Yellowstone NP.
Flooding can be VERY bad. Best to the good folks in Italy.

They should cancel Monaco and insert this weekend into that date. Only the very rich who gather at Monaco for the parties care if there happens to be a race while they are there. Historic race - yes. Crummy track - yes. Boring ...
Bummer.
Ok now I’m hyperventilating! Dang it!
Yes y3s and once again yes!
Snorkel 175 ?
I guess I’m gonna pass on this one 🤠
Thanks
damn... thx
sad but true...
LOLOL...
pretty sure there’d be some hydroplaning...
What a bunch of babies. Give the drivers kayak paddles and let ‘er rip!
Chode, ol’ buddy, dang that they canceled, this could have been the edge that McLaren needs.
I thought F1 raced in any type of condition unlike wimpy NASCAR.
when the paddock is under water, well...
