I am all for killing feral cats.
Don’t feral cats kill rodents.
Cool! Then after, they can reward the children with hormone blockers!
They kill a lot of other things as well. They’re apparently as ecologically destructive in Australia and New Zealand as feral hogs are in the southeastern United States.
What about cat juggling?
Why? Why not have them captured by groups and then have them spayed and neutered and clip their ears. Those with serious diseases like Feline Leukemia can be put down if need be.
Feral cats are the result of idiotic pet owners, just like most dog bites are the result of idiotic pet owners, which result sometimes in some Dogs that have to be put down.
I am all for human safety, but just killing animals indiscriminately that do not pose a threat to Humans are habitats, like these pythons that got brought to Florida by stupid people (which should be killed given threat to natural habitats).
Capture them and spay and neuter them.
What other animals? I can’t imagine a feral cat killing a cow or pig.
Don’t think politics matter?
Try proposing a leash law for cats.
The ones here use my garden as a toilet. Not a fan of cats. I wild/feral cats as a disease vector.
YMMV
Also I am for killing feral hogs, puts more bacon an the market.
Pretty much all the weird little marsupials that are indigenous to those places.
As the article noted, feral cats can cause real problems. I hate to say it, but my first thought here was: Many psychopaths get their start as children, killing small animals. So this is probably not something to be encouraged.
Ah, heck. I’m probably reading too much into this.
As a child, I was the family expert on setting mousetraps.
I think you’re reading too much into it.
Coyote and mountain lion are mostly gone from the plains states due to teenage boys, their dogs and 22 caliber rifles that were in play from 1880 until 1960. Dear hunting also is a mover in that drama.
“Why not have them captured by groups and then have them spayed and neutered and clip their ears.”
If they’re going to live out their days at your place then fine. But spaying and neutering and then letting them go doesn’t solve the problem of cats annihilating local bird populations.
Feral cats have obliterated bird populations in Australia and the one thing the Aussies relaxed their gun controls for is cat hunting. They’re very serious about ridding their country of feral cats and they’re not so particular if the family tabby gets killed while hunting local birds.
I'm calling bullshit on that.
In Australia the feral cats kill the birds. Rabbits have also become invasive.
You mean like koala bears and the platypus. Koala bears nah, the platypus, maybe, but I can see a Kiwi bird pecking a feral cat to death.
