The first step - the school district offers a cash settlement.
No attorney - the parents and the teenager keep 100%.
If they think the settlement is too small, then they hire an attorney, who can get up to 40% in some states.
The settlement will come within a few months and have limited or possibly zero publicity.
A civil trial and appeals can take years, and there is always the possibility the plaintiffs can lose.
