Aveeno therapeutic shave gel. $4.63 with tax at Amazon.
Just an inch worth will cover the beard. Washes clean off.

Schick Hydro Sensitive Razor for Men — Razor for Men Sensitive Skin with 17 Razor Blades. Has 5 blades. $55 with tax at Amazon.

Tried a safety razor and it is not safe!

Reconsider an electric razor. It takes 3-4 weeks for your skin to get used to it to get really close shaves.

Use Lectric Shave (that's the brand name) lotion prior to shaving.

Use an aftershave cream such as Nivea.

Do not wet rinse the razor regardless of what the manufacturer promises. The blades dull much faster if you wet them.

Tap out the cut hair dust after each use.

Clean it once a week with a can of computer keyboard air blaster. Afterwards, spray the blades with a cleaner such as Remington Shaver.

Charge it once a week.

Replace the blades yearly. (about $30-$35)

I get closer shaves than I ever could with a safety razor, no ingrown hairs, and I'm no longer chained to a sink since the shaver is cordless.

You don’t use the USMC razor—a claw hammer? Drive ‘em in and bite them off, and use the claw on whatever’s left…

WOW! What a beard!

Can anyone guess “how many critters live in that beard?”

Another guess. “How does that man eat?”

Thanks for the good laugh and the cool picture.

Last question: “Is that you maddog55?”

I went electric. Changed my hair. I don’t grow fast so only shave once or twice a week.

Blade razors don’t work any longer.

No,I haven’t. However,I am retired and I have a white beard so a less than absolutely close shave for me is OK most of the time.

FYI...

I used Israeli Personnas many years ago - OK blade but nothing special.

I have 2 Edwin-Jagger (UK) razors - both with same 3-piece E-J head. EJ recommends Feather & includes a Feather with these razors.

Feather is overwhelmingly accepted as THE sharpest blade and also has the best quality (from the Japanese medical blade company) albeit a bit costly at 40-cents/blade.

That said...

“Perma-Sharp” (Russian Gillette) is very, very close to Feather in sharpness and far superior to any Personna.

100 blades for $9.49

Schick Titaniums each last me 4-6 months each, and I don’t dry them.

They don’t nick you, due to the titanium, and as long as you have a good shaving or shower gel, the little strip not being “new,” doesn’t matter.

Lol! I’m old. Every day I wake up is a bonus. I look in the mirror to see if I can remember any name.

I pulled the trigger and bought a safety razor. I shaved for the first time with it this morning. No cuts or nicks. It was a very close shave. I couldn’t resist the price of double edge razor blades at $0.07 each.
