“Wagners Might be trapped in Bakhmut and Encircled by Ukrainian Forces”
Wait what? Two weeks ago the truthspeakers here said it was Ukraine encircled in Bahkmut!
Do you remember the reports from August 10, 2022?
Russian forces are within 2-3 kilometers of the city of Bakhmut, the transport hub that anchors the south end of the Donbas salient.
Sloviansk itself and at least 11 small towns near Bohorodychne northwest of Sloviansk were struck by sustained artillery fire. Further east, there was small unit ground activity near Siversk.
But principal Russian attention continues to be on Bakhmut as ground forces are pushing toward the transport hub from the Luhan River Reservoir as well as from the east.
Reports that Russian forces have entered Bakhmut from the south-east were contradicted by the Ukrainian General Staff. But even the slowest Russian grind will bring the south-end anchor of the Donbas salient under Russian control in a matter of days to a week."
In time we'll learn the fate of Bakhmut. I'm amazed people can ignore how little progress the Russians have made since they targeted this city last August. Can you imagine the U.S. military stalled taking a single town against all their efforts for month after month after month after month after month after month after month after month after month?
So pathetic.
Counterattacks successful on Bakhmut front: Russians retreat up to 2 km in some places

Ukrainian defenders have been able to launch efficient counterattacks on the Bakhmut front, forcing the occupiers to retreat up to two kilometres in some areas.
SOURCE: Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on Telegram
QUOTE from Syrskyi:
“Thanks to our well-thought-out defence on the Bakhmut front, we are getting results from the efficient actions of our units. In particular, we are conducting efficient counterattacks. In some areas of the contact line, the enemy was unable to withstand the pressure of Ukrainian defenders and retreated to a distance of up to two kilometres.”
DETAILS:
Syrskyi has said that competent defensive operations exhausted the trained forces of the Wagner Private Military Company, and on some fronts, they were forced to give up their positions to less well-trained units of the Russian regular army, which were defeated and had to retreat.
Syrskyi has particularly noted the work of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, which dealt the Russians a powerful blow in battle.
“Our Defence Forces are holding the front securely and preventing the enemy from advancing. The battle for Bakhmut continues... As Carl von Clausewitz said: ‘The war is fought to victory. That’s all.’,” Syrskyi summed up.
BACKGROUND:
Earlier, Evgeny Prigozhin, owner of the Wagner PMC, said that there is a high risk of his mercenaries being encircled in Bakhmut as the flanks held by the Russian military are cracking.

Pentagon officially confirms Ukraine’s Air Force shot down Russian Kinzhal missile with Patriot air defence system
EUROPEAN PRAVDA
TUESDAY, 9 MAY 2023, 23:08
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/05/10/7401577/
On Tuesday 9 May, Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, spokesman of the Pentagon, confirmed the statement of the Ukrainian side that the Russian Kinzhal missile, flying at hypersonic speed, was shot down from the Patriot air defence missile system.
SOURCE: Ryder’s words are quoted by CNN, reports European Pravda
QUOTE: “I can confirm that they [Ukrainians - ed.] did down a Russian missile by employing the Patriot missile defence system,” Ryder said. “As you know, that system is part of a broader range of air defence capabilities that the United States and the international community have provided to Ukraine,” the Defense Department spokesman said.
Details: Ryder added that the US and its partners would continue to “rush ground-based air defence capabilities and munitions to help Ukraine control its sovereign skies and to help Ukraine defend its citizens from Russia.”
On 6 May, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the Ukrainian military shot down the Russian Kinzhal missile with the Patriot air defence system. Later, the United States unofficially confirmed this statement.
The Russians called the Kinzhal a hypersonic missile, but after its downing in Ukraine, experts suggested that in fact it was a ballistic missile that could fly faster than the speed of sound.

I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the four hundred and forty first day of the war.
Day 441: May 10
Today there is a lot of good news from the Bakhmut direction. First of all, more information became available about yesterday’s assault on the southern flank.
Today it became clear that Ukrainians did not attack Russian positions in front simultaneously but rather started shaving them off from the corner near the forest. This explains how most Russians managed to run away before Ukrainians reached their positions. Russians would receive a message about the attack from one group, then lose connection, receive a message about the attack from the second group, and lose connection, and when they understood that they were next on the line, they would run away. Yesterday in the late evening, the commander of the 2nd battalion of the 3rd Assault Brigade reported that they managed to penetrate Russian defense by 2.6 km deep on a 3 km wide front.
But it looks like this was only the beginning because today, Ukrainians released footage showing that they are already operating almost 3 km away from yesterday’s positions, clearing the tree lines near Kurdiumivka. The video featured the same 2nd battalion of the 3rd Assault Brigade and showed how they approached the trenches under the cover of M113. The fighters successfully suppressed the enemy fire and reached the enemy trenches. Since there were several trenches along the tree line, a small group would stay to clear the position, while other troops with the vehicle would continue their movement towards the next fortification. As a result, all positions were cleared, and the fighters reported collecting a lot of trophies, such as machine guns, grenade throwers, sniper rifles, and ammunition.
In the meantime, Ukrainian artillery has increased their focus on this flank and started undermining the next Russian positions on the line. Geolocated footage showed how Ukrainians set on fire a Russian shelter just south of Ivanivske. Russians tried to extinguish the fire, however, in the end, they just chose to abandon their positions and ran towards Klischiivka.
Unfortunately for Russians, Ukrainian artillery is also actively firing at Russian positions in Klischiivka. Recently released footage shows how Ukrainians started destroying Russian warehouses with fuel and ammunition. The coordinated work with drone reconnaissance and artillery resulted in the destruction of at least 2 warehouses.
Ukrainian artillery crews also fired at Russian objects in a small settlement south of Klischiivka. After several strikes, Ukrainian drone operators also noticed an increased movement of vehicles. It looks like the Russians got concerned about the strikes together with the recent front-line penetrations and decided to relocate their equipment before it was destroyed by the artillery. However, thanks to the drone operator, the artillery fire followed Russians through the field, which resulted in multiple pieces of equipment being destroyed.
The fact that Ukrainians increased the area of operation from 3 km to 6 km, cleared almost all Russian positions west of Kurdiumivka, forced Russians to abandon their positions south of Ivanivske, and destroyed multiple warehouses and pieces of equipment around Klischiivka, suggests that most undersupplied and tactically vulnerable part of the front line is the forest. Now, as their supplies are essentially cut, Ukrainians can attack them from several directions at once, provide fire support west of the canal, and they should run out of supplies in a matter of hours. Given that there is only one retreat route along the tree line, which is also under fire control, the chances of survival, even during the retreat, are very slim. Once the forest is cleared, Ukrainians can safely move along the canal and attack not only Klishciivka but also Andriivka and Kurdiumivka. And once a powerful bridgehead east of the canal is established, Ukrainians can use this ground to launch a large-scale mechanized assault to start encircling the Wagner Group from the south.
ARTICLE GIVING INSIGHT INTO THE “RUSSIAN TROLL FACTORY” OWNED BY YEVGENY PRIGOZHIN:
Inside The ‘Propaganda Kitchen’ — A Former Russian ‘Troll Factory’ Employee Speaks Out
January 29, 2021 13:39 GMT
By Dmitry Volchek
https://www.rferl.org/a/russian-troll-factory-hacking/31076160.html
“You don’t just sit around gathering dust there; you bang on the keys, the same nonsense for 11 hours,” the former employee said.
The money wasn’t bad, but the work was demanding: posting up to 120 comments a day, over an 11-hour shift — in chat rooms, on websites, and in social-media profiles belonging to specific Russian-language news outlets such as the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta and RFE/RL’s Russian Service.
“There were people who really flew at [the work] with enthusiasm, and then some who came to work just realizing that all they were doing was nonsense,” Sergei K., a former employee of a Russian company that became known as the “Russian troll factory,” told RFE/RL in an interview.
Such was life at the St. Petersburg firm whose registered name used to be the Internet Research Agency and which earned its moniker by pumping out conspiracy theories, half-truths, trolling social-media posts, and other misinformation.
Owned by a St. Petersburg businessman named Yevgeny Prigozhin, the operation gained international infamy when it was specifically identified in the 2017 U.S. intelligence report on Russian efforts to interfere in the previous year’s presidential election.
“Masquerading as Americans, these operatives used targeted advertisements, intentionally falsified news articles, self-generated content, and social-media platform tools to interact with and attempt to deceive tens of millions of social-media users in the United States,” a follow-up report by the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee said.
U.S. Cyber Command, one of the U.S. government’s main cyber-agencies, claimed it knocked the “troll factory” off-line during the 2018 U.S. congressional elections.
The company is still in operation, and media reports and other investigations have documented how Prigozhin has diversified his efforts to include funding private military mercenary companies, setting up operations in Africa and elsewhere.
The “troll factory,” however, has seen its influence wane as social-media companies like Facebook and Twitter have gotten more sophisticated about blocking and removing anonymous accounts deemed to be trolls.
Even before the findings of the U.S. intelligence community, its influence had been diluted as ex-employees of the company spoke out about the firm and what they did there.
In 2015, a man named Marat Burkhard told RFE/RL’s Russian Service how the work was conducted. One Russian journalist went undercover to get a job at the operation and was later fired and filed a lawsuit claiming the working conditions and her contract violated labor law.
She ended up winning her case and was awarded 1 ruble in a symbolic victory.
‘I THOUGHT IT WAS DYSTOPIA’
Prigozhin has seemingly sought to conceal the legal ownership of the company, changing its name and registration every few years. At the time that Sergei K. worked for an outlet called the Federal News Agency (FAN), the company’s name was Mixinfo.
FAN, which has multiple links to Prigozhin and the Internet Research Agency, has dismissed the notion that it is part of a “troll factory.”
In a lengthy interview last week via the Telegram messaging app, Sergei K. told RFE/RL’s Russian Service he took the job in 2018 after a suggestion from a friend. It was easy money, he said, asking that his full name not be used to avoid legal repercussions from his former employer.
“I met people there who were convinced that the problem wasn’t that everything was awful in [Russia], but rather in the U.S. State Department and with the eye in the pyramid” he said, referring to a symbol used on one side of the U.S. dollar bill that is often a fixation for conspiracy theorists.
Qualifications for being hired weren’t demanding, he said, just a high-school diploma. But there were some people who had advanced degrees, including doctorates. All had to undergo a background check, he said; he was forced to sign a nondisclosure agreement.
He said most people were paid around 40,000 rubles a month ($524); he made 45,000; others who worked longer and harder got paid more. The expectation, he said, was he would make about 120 comments during his shift.
The “factory” had many different departments, each comprising around 15 people and each dealing with a different external Internet or social-media company. One dealt with YouTube, he said, another with Facebook, and another with the Russian social network VK, which is widely used there. His team’s focus was comments on posts made by media outlets including RFE/RL.
One department was responsible for compiling databases with biographies of people deemed to be political enemies and then making a list of targets, he said: “There’s a list of media outlets that, pardon the expression, need to be shit upon — Radio Svoboda (RFE/RL’s Russian Service) and Novaya Gazeta are at the top.”
Another department created memes, including pornographic ones. These were sent around via messages and the trolls would then publish them in various places, Sergei said.
“At first, when I got there, I didn’t quite believe that it was real at all. I had a kind of culture shock. Orwell described how it works. I thought it was a dystopia, but in fact this is how it works,” he told RFE/RL.
In his department, Sergei said, they coordinated work via Telеgram and decided where to direct their efforts.
“You don’t just sit around gathering dust there; you bang on the keys, the same nonsense for 11 hours,” he said.
He said he and his colleagues would set up fake accounts — for example, on VK — and use a huge stack of cell-phone SIM cards in order to authenticate your account when you first set it up.
People would create fake names and steal photographs from other social-media accounts on social networks such as Odnoklassniki, another popular Russian site. Sometimes, the photographs were taken from people who had died, he said.
Then, they would edit the photographs slightly — make them black-and-white, or flip them 180 degrees — so as to throw off search engines, he said.
In all, he probably worked with more than 100 fake accounts, Sergei said. The fake accounts were used strategically: Having a teenage girl commenting on a nuclear arms treaty would look suspicious, he said.
People would also use virtual private networks — VPNs — to disguise their real location: A commenter could appear to be in Mozambique, for example, when in fact he was sitting in St. Petersburg.
Under the websites or social-media accounts of Russia Today, which is now known as RT, the “trolls” would post comments that were either pro-Russian or anti-Western.
“Go to a RT group on any social network. Day after day, they’re fighting for Mother Russia. Under any news, whether it’s about missiles, or the United States, or Putin, they’re everywhere, like cockroaches,” he said.
Sometimes “trolls” would be expected to respond to another “troll’s” comments or post, to give the appearance of a discussion involving two unconnected users, he said.
MY KARMA IS RUINED
Sergei told RFE/RL that Prigozhin himself never came to the building that houses the “troll factory,” but that his assistant did: “A bald man, 45-50 years old.”
In 2019, about a year after working there, Sergei said he began to get disillusioned.
“At first it was even funny. In our group, people openly mocked Putin himself, and almost everyone understood the absurdity of what we were doing,” he said. “It’s like doctors who work with corpses, over time they begin to joke, relax, defuse the situation.”
But after a while, he said, his conscience began to eat at him; he was constantly stressed and had migraine headaches.
Asked why he decided to speak out about his former employer, he suggested it was something of an effort at atonement — for the trolling he did and the lies he spread.
“I turned to [RFE/RL], because, having seen the kitchen of state propaganda from the inside, I understood why they [tried to] shut you up and spread rot so much,” he said. “They lie everywhere. Now, television makes me sick, and my karma is ruined for three lives into the future.”
