Not all statins are created equal when it comes to reducing mortality risk in COVID-19 patients (Simvastatin and atorvastatin = “highly protective”)

I have 5 stents in the heart bundle, since July 2018, and can’t take general anesthesia, so I’m not a candidate for a bypass.

I had mine 14 years, doc tells me that they can do new stents inside old stents if need be. Very little bypass surgery being done today.

“My elderly mother was taking cholesterol-reducing drugs in the latter part of her life. About a year or two before she passed away, a new cancer doctor asked why? He said at 87, what did it matter what her cholesterol levels were. She should eat what she wanted within reason and to throw away those prescriptions. He said he never recommended statins for the elderly as long as they ate reasonably healthy diets.”

A long time ago my wife’s mother visited us and was having problems walking and sleeping with severe hip pain. She was on her mid-late 70’s and was on a statin because her FP back home, felt that she should be. Her mother and grandmother lived until their late 80’s and early 90’s w/o statins.

My wife was our PC’s office RN, and they discussed dcing her mother’s statin. He suggested that she stay with us for an extra month.

They ran lab tests before and 3 weeks after DCing the statin.

She could eat whatever she wanted from my wife’s Mediteranen
diet.

So she went off the statin. In less than 5 days’ and nights her hip pain was gone and her new non steroid was DCed.

Her statin levels went down a little, she could care less.

She lived about 10+ more years without hip pain and no statins.

Infectious Disease ping - Certain medications indicate a higher likelihood of survival with covid-19
Certain statins were found to have maybe reduced mortality in Covid-19 patients (not all statins !)
Some prescribed statins were more effective than others, (shown below, and in the article)

ConservativeMind :" Zocor and Lipitor were the brand names of the two statins that actually helped people.

(From the article):" In the flurry of clinical studies being published by other scientists studying COVID-19, some found that statins seemed to reduce mortality in COVID-19 patients,
while others found no effect—but these studies did not discriminate between different types of statin drugs."

"Now, the team have confirmed that only a subset of them, including simvastatin (Zocor) and atorvastatin (Lipitor), reduce mortality risk in COVID-19 patients.
The team also demonstrated that simvastatin potently inhibited the virus
and reduced the production of inflammatory cytokines, while other statins did not."

"The researchers analyzed 2,436 drugs with NeMoCAD, and noticed that a subset of statin drugs were among those predicted to restore a COVID-19 state to a healthy state,
including simvastatin, atorvastatin, pravastatin (Pravachol), lovastatin (Altoprev), and fluvastatin (Lescol).
However, only simvastatin and atorvastatin were ranked as highly protective; the others showed a much weaker predicted effect."

"Together, the groups performed a retrospective analysis of more than 4,000 patients who were actively taking statins when they became infected with SARS-CoV-2.
The results showed that only simvastatin and atorvastatin correlated with significantly increased survival in COVID-19 patients."

(My Comment) : Keep this information in mind, "if and when" we have another viral attack
This information could determine your survival, or, whether you become another statistic.
