A Louisiana man allegedly shot a 14-year-old girl in the back of the head as she played hide-and-seek with a group of friends on his property — where he told police he opened fire after seeing “shadows.”
David Doyle, 58, has been charged with aggravated battery, four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and the illegal discharge of a firearm, police said.
The incident occurred Sunday morning in Starks, a small town near the border with Texas, where police received reports of a shooting.
Detectives determined that “several juveniles were playing hide and seek in the area and were hiding on the neighbor’s property,” the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

I’m wondering what exact time on “Sunday morning” did this happen. 11 AM or 2 AM?
I don’t think that rock salt loaded shells are even available anymore. I have never seen any for sale.
Not directed at you but in general:
That being said, blanks kill. Wadding without any shot, kills. Firearms, like Joe Biden firing his shotgun in the air off his deck, are not warning tools, IMHO.
Have you ever had a next door neighbor steal things out of your yard? It does happen, you know.
I know that people have no respect for property and it is a damn shame and even criminal, but I am fearful that our outrage makes some go for deadly force when it is not warranted.
True.
They were never commercially available to my knowledge as they don’t work
Inside 7-10 feet they might hurt someone but beyond that its just a noisemaker
I’m still playing hide and seek. Nobody ever yelled “olly olly oxen free” :(
I used to have rules for the local kids to play in the creek on my property.
NO horseplay on the bridge!! Use it to cross over ONLY!
NO dams!
NO pulling rocks from the banks!
NEVER leave a mess!
but most importantly
YOUR MOTHER MUST KNOW YOU ARE HERE!!! For this I let them use my phone. I was an old bachelor, new to WV and worse yet, from NYC! This last was to protect myself as well.
All those kids are now grown and gone. No more kids close by. In a way, I kindda miss ‘em.
Right! This article said she suffered non-life-threatening injuries. https://www.kplctv.com/2023/05/08/starks-man-accused-shooting-14-year-old-girl-playing-hide-seek-back-head/
Prowling around a neighbors yard in the dark "early Sunday morning" can get a person in trouble.
As folks say, nothing good happens after midnight, and certainly not if you're playing hide and seek in your neighbor's yard.
Boogieman — thank you so much for that! I haven’t thought of the words “olly olly oxen free” for perhaps 55 years.
I know what it means just what you say — you can come out now — but I didn’t know where it came from. Now I know that nobody else knows that either:

I live on an island with about 3K well behaved souls (12 churches, 2 saloons, 1 pot shop).
No one is anonymous. Easy to tell if someone doesn't belong.
A 14 year old girl is dead. Could you show just a little compassion and give her the benefit of the doubt? Maybe where you live 14 yos are allgangbangers but it’s not like that everywhere.
Fair enough.
Well, ok then.
“Miraculously, the girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.”
That’s ridiculous. Normal teens, not the nerds who stay indoors glued to their devices, do still play hide’n seek and other outdoor games.
Man, you are losing it.
I played it with my great-grandchildren when I was 75.
Lucky kid!
Alzheimers disease is becoming more common at younger ages.
Many in their 50’s are being diagnosed.
It is thought that the clot shots might be accelerating the Big A.
I notice that several of these quick-on-the-trigger jerks lately are in their 50
50’s and 60’s which is another problem altogether.
Paranoia is one symptom of Alzheimers.
