Never heard Porkie's version, but Elvis's version was a cover--or perhaps, a better term would be revival--of a tune that was a hit by several acts at the start of the decade.
I prefer Laura Nyro’s version of “Wedding bell Blues,” which was a hit in Southern California in December, 1966, but apparently nowhere else.

Superstar—The Carpenters (with Sonic Youth a close second)
Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)—The Raconteurs
The Road Goes on Forever—Joe Ely
Interestingly, although it's given a rock treatment, this is essentially Fred Waring's arrangement that his act, Waring's Pennsylvanians, popularized during the 1940's.
Also, check out a BBC recording from perhaps two years ago, of Mark Knopfler performing Simon & Garfunkle's "The Boxer". His gritty, aging baritone works so well there.
Lastly, thinking about the late Gordon Lightfoot, check out the Jerry Reed cover of "Early Morning Rain". The backing instrumental arrangement isn't the best, but Jerry's guitar and voice are spot-on.
With few exceptions every stones or zep cover of old blues riffs and songs even though the blues men especially delta guys were innovative and Uber influencers
HOTRS by animals better
Going Down by Jeff Beck Group
No Quarter by Tool arguably better
All Along the watchtower Jimi over Bob
Whiskey in the Jar Metallica over TL and yes some will disagree
WALHFMF cocker over Fab Four
SDAMOT by Marilyn over Annie
Higher ground peppers over can’t see em
I fought the Law clash over buddy’s survivors
Biggest smash ever redo
When the Levee Breaks Zep over Minnie
Maybe best rock song ever period
I hadn’t realized that you also included Sinatra’s “Mrs. Robinson”. A lot of people hate it. I think Frank was having fun with it. OI love the big band arrangement, too.
Manfred Mann
The Carpenters - Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft
I like The Lemonheads version of “Mrs. Robinson”
Yep, been playing a lot of Gord the last few days.
I regret not appreciating him as much when I was younger.

I couldn’t find her playing Jerusalem, but here is Rachael Flowers playing TARKUS on Keith’s equipment. (BTW - she’s blind!)
That’s a good version of “Losing It”. Lots of emotion.
Here is RUSH’s cover of “Crossroads”. I like it better than the earlier versions. Live version - they really rock it.

RUSH did an album that was just covers called “Feedback”. A tribute to some of the bands and songs they looked up to and loved growing up. And mostly likely played at their early gigs in the Toronto clubs.
Sorry, The Leaves version is the best.
Queen of Hearts by Juice Newton is far superior to the Dave Edmonds version.
Hawkwind did what I thought was a good space-rock cover of Gimme Shelter.
