That is the fundamental point of the coronation. Charles was submissive as he was first reminded that the job is to serve, not be served. The pledges are for the monarch to serve, not rule. There are constant reminders that the new king serves God not himself.

The law the king is bound to uphold is that of the Christian faith, then the established customs, laws and precedents of the nation. He is not part of the government of the day, nor does he make new law.

The Bible presented for the gospel reading is over 1300 years old.
