Today I’m voting no, and let me tell you why.
The bill was not all bad. It contained modest but needed updates on energy permitting reforms and it negotiated spending reductions, but it is just not enough for Montana.
We are faced with adding $4 trillion in debt. More must be done to cut the budget and grow the economy. Article I of the Constitution is clear, “no money shall be withdrawn from the treasury but in Consequence of Appropriations made by law.”
We need structural change in how government operates to get back to that fundamental Constitutional power. I will use my position on the Appropriations Committee to reduce spending and pull back government over-regulation that is driving inflation and debt.
I commend Speaker McCarthy for his work in passing the Limit, Save, Grow Act and forcing the White House to finally negotiate with Republicans.
