Lupron is USED as a puberty blocker on healthy prepubescent male children. It blocks the production of testosterone to a level of near zero and shrinks the testicles in the process. For cancer patients, this might be a lifesaver since prostate cancer thrives on testosterone, and removing it from the body can stall or even reverse metastasis.
But the effects on the body are still detrimental. Men on this regimen report “hot flashes” and mood swings similar to women in menopause. For advanced stages of cancer, this regimen is ongoing forever, until death.
