One of the few reliable truths in electoral politics is that voters like tall presidents. The average U.S. president is about two inches taller than the average U.S. man, who is 5’9”.
Recent presidents have skewed even larger: Every president since Jimmy Carter (5’9.5”) has been 5’11.5” or taller. We haven’t elected a president smaller than the average man in nearly 130 years, when short king William McKinley won his election. “We are a species that equates larger size with maturity, leadership and sex appeal,” wrote Jay Mathews in the Washington Post in 1999.
“If we were like some insects, where adults are smaller than larvae, we might not think this way. But we do.” So it stands to reason that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is thirstily gunning for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, would want to, let’s say, amplify his stature. Rumor has it that the governor is around 5’9”. His expected closest competitor in the GOP primary, Donald Trump, was, at 6’3”, our third-tallest president, a fact he repeats to himself five times in the mirror every morning before taking a deep, restorative breath and going on to face the day. And the man DeSantis would have to face in the general election, Joe Biden, clocked in at 6-foot-even at his 2023 physical. (Biden measured just 5 feet, 11.65 inches in 2021, an enduring mystery that suggests either some kind of supernatural yoga practice or a White House physician with poor attention to detail.)

Huh? As in Guantanamo Bay? lol
Voters aren’t rational. They chose Joe
The fact that voters aren’t rational was one of the hardest things I had to come to grip with. That fact alone endangers our Constitutional government. All our present ills derive from that!
Like others here I don’t find DeSantis appealing. He’s quite disciplined, rehearsed, we need to see him unscripted. He won’t connect if he can’t appear authentic. Can’t imagine him as president from what I’ve seen in interviews and in speeches.
Since we’re now talking about looks (which is ok to an extent - after all, Fetterman is ridiculous), would that be the IT factor of slouching shoulders or the perennial pronounced frown a’la Mussolini? ;-)
What has you lord done?
Are you referring to President Trump? I think the title speaks for itself.
You know what I mean.
You all try to disparage DS for some meager MIL service that isn’t enough for you.
Then you ignore the obvious. Trump never did anything MIL. Anything. Not even NG which you all once defended Bush for in the face of Dems disparaging it the same way (while Klintoon et al had no service either).
Honestly I don’t think MIL is really necessary. But the hypocrisy - most of my time on FR MIL has been held up as necessary to lead, etc. it all went silent a few years back.
CIC trumps a Gitmo lawyer every day of the week.
I didn’t see it at first, but Trump was spot on to go after DeSantis with both barrels from the jump.
DeSantis is his only potential challenger. Why WAIT to start pounding your only serious challenger into the ground?
Why WAIT until he announces? Go for the throat RIGHT AWAY!
Trump is our ONLY hope to save this nation. NO ONE ELSE can do it. I’m not even sure Trump can do it. We are so far down that corrupt road that it may well be too late.
Except if you read closely, he got taller from 5.11 to 6.0
Again…you know what I mean. Did he train and put on a MIL uniform?
You guys sure are acting like libs always twisting yourselves to justify something.
Good point. Thanks. Just skimming.
I know exactly what you mean. There is no twisting of anything. I don't need to justify the following...DeSantis would have made a good soldier (Gitmo lawyer) under CIC Trump. You asked "what has you lord done?' It was an ignorant way to form a stupid question. I told you, now for what the third time? What else you got?
Maybe he got the tingle up his leg (just kidding, but talking about how people wear clothes is slightly humorous).
Indeed, Jeb attended DeSantis' inauguration, a clear indication that DeSantis is a puppet controlled by the Bush cabal.
Meanwhile, Trump staffing nearly his entire administration with Poppy and Jr Bush's JV team means nothing.
Trust the plan!
That started around August 19, 1920 and it’s been getting worse ever since.
“Now the GQ segment hates on Ron because of his collars.”
C’mon man, there’s no way he can compete with DJT...75 lbs overweight, cartoon hair, and a half-inch thick spray-on orange coating. Now THAT’S style!
I appreciate your comments.
I think generally speaking, just about all of us respect and like Desantis, but many have been put off for his seeming disloyalty.
I think, I’d have really been impressed with him, if he had bucked the elite establishment, and put his weight beyond Trump.
He chose not to, obviously because he thinks that he’s ready for “prime time”.
I agree whole heartedly with your comments. He seems very scripted and unnatural when I’ve seen him.
He needs to go a lone way. before he can navigate thru the territory Trump had blazed for people like him.
In fact, that’s really what it comes down to.
Trump has blazed the trail, and fought the battle.
Desantis is a Judas in my book.
He is.
There’s people like this guy lurking on just every post that involves Desantis or Trump. they have short memories.
Desantis hasn’t paid his dues. He’s a gutless wonder in my book.
I don’t relish seeing him crash and burn, but I can guarantee you he won’t even get out of the starting gate.
