The qualifying exam for college is a good idea. College may be “free” but they require you to be qualified before you can get in. And the exams are no joke.
This system would never have a chance in the USA, which is so ashamed of itself that it is eliminating exams and requirements and basing rewards on skin shade and/or sexual preferences.
It’s still not hard. You just can’t get the major you want unless you get a high test score. So city boys and girls end up stuck in majors like large animal veterinary if they want to go to college.

I agree. This is one of the very few things Europe does better than America. It is not a Hungarian invention though. Nearly every country in Europe does it.
On other topics Hungary is economically a basket case. Some right-wing outlets just instinctively praise them because Hungary is perceived as right-wing, but their economic policy is Socialism and it is not a novel idea to combine Socialism with Nationalism.
Anyway, it doesn’t work for them either as Socialism never does and never has.
