The couple, Ashley Knutson and Devontae Garrisson-Johnson, say they had just left Nordstrom and were walking through the Loop looking for a place to eat when they were caught up in a large group of teens and young adults Saturday.
Knutson, visiting the area from South Carolina, and Garrison-Johnsson, of Maywood, tried to make their way through the crowd, but they were quickly overwhelmed.
“We were trying to walk through the crowd, and I was holding his hand and he was walking in front me,” Knutson said. “First they shoved him, and then they ended up shoving me too.”
A now-viral video, originally posted by CWB Chicago, shows a large group of people viciously attacking the couple, punching and kicking both of them while stomping on Garrison-Johnsson’s head.

Live with no debt. Pay your bills faithfully and on time.
You would be amazed at how invisible you become.
Stay out of Chicago if you want to live
BTTT
For those with discernment, Chicago is closed.
I do live in a small town (about 10,000 or so), but we moved here as empty nesters. We’ve found that when you don’t have kids in a school system, it’s harder to meet people. As a result, we only know our neighbors and some people from church. I bet in the entire state of Indiana we only know a few dozen people. Good enough. My only downfall is that perfect strangers seem to think they know me from somewhere else. I just have one of those faces that seems familiar.
Why didn’t the news clip show the boyfriend?
We live almost equidistant between New York city and Washington DC, about a two hour trip to either city. Pre-COVID we would go a few times a year, see the galleries, Smithsonian, the Met, etc. Get a nice meal. Walk a bit, maybe take subway in to avoid parking hassle. Nice day trip.
Nowadays? Not a chance. Would not go anywhere in either city after dark. Could not get paid enough to ride either subway.
Who in their right mind would visit Chicago today?
I just have one of those faces that seems familiar.

Did that 30+ years ago and haven’t looked back!

Ken Griffin (Citadel hedge fund) moved his entire business to Florida last year citing crime as the primary motivation. That's at least hundreds of millions in tax revenue plus a lot of high-paying jobs generating tax revenue plus added economic stimulation supporting local businesses all gone. RIP Chicago.
I sub-leased a place of my buddy’s in Heritage Towers, a half a block off Michigan between the old library and Marshal Fields. Had it for two periods spanning about four years with a year break. I fact, I had it when they were filming that second Batman movie — the catering kitchen was in the alley next door.
I would use the parking at the airport on weekends when I would go to KC and he could use his own place on the weekends. Worked out great for us both. I didn’t have to travel with much when I came in Mondays as he had a washer and dryer and I could iron my own shirts.
Yep. Keep your head swiveling all the time.
Wonder what Devonte's thinking about all of this now. "Ah, yes, those are my people"? or "This is why I date a white girl."
Living in Philadelphia? Yikes!
OR just do not go to Chicago, NYC, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Detroit, Baltimore, Milwaukee, or any other city where they voted to DEFUND the POLICE.
Should legitimate demand require you to visit a place you recognize as less than safe, your habits of putting your personal safety as your responsibility will serve you well.
Police do not do anything to keep you safe. They are a reactionary service meant to fill out the record and paperwork. That is unless you want a proactive policing power to interfere with individual liberties. I for one do not.
