The U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN) is a system of climate observing stations developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The USCRN's primary goal is to provide long-term temperature, precipitation, and soil moisture and temperature observations that are of high quality and are taken in stable settings.

The network consists of 114 commissioned stations in the contiguous United States, 21 stations in Alaska (with a plan to eventually have a total of 29), and 2 stations in Hawaii.

The USCRN is the best temperature monitoring system in the world.

It was initially completed in 2005.

Eyeball-ing the 18 year chart, it appears that temps have been stable or have declined slightly in the USA.

The USCRN website does not state in the introduction if it includes temps from Hawaii and Alaska in the average.

Some day, I will read through the entire USCRN website and find out if the average temp is for the contiguous states, or all 50 states.

I will also search for the plus or minus trend in the 18 year average.

The global warming model says that atmospheric carbon traps solar heat in the mid atmosphere. As evidence, proponents of this theory keep throwing surface temperatures at us. Surface temperatures are not evidence of the global warming theory. Any number of factors can affect surface temperatures.

The University of Alabama Huntsville satellite data come from the lower troposphere, starting around 10 km above sea level.

Also, the two Professors at UAH who compile and analyze the data are verifiably neutral on the issue of Global Warming.

Analysis of the satellite data since 1979 indicates global heating of 0.5 F to 1.5 F.

According to two sources, satellite data from the last 8 years show no warming at all.

A 15 year temperature record on a 4.5 BILLION year old planet seems a little insignificant, but maybe that’s just me.

The temperature standard for modern meteorology is 30 consecutive years of data.

Because...science! Again, thirty years of data on a 4.5 billion year old planet cannot establish a trend. They’re looking a 10ths of a degree of change, when we know the earth has been much warmer, and much colder than it is now. They’re looking at a huge, extremely complicated system in pitiful little human terms.
