The Captain of the Enterprise mused at the end that, while they saved the colonists from immediate destruction, the cultural contamination resulting from their interaction may have still doomed it.

I used to watch STTNG and I thought I had seen all the episodes but I don't remember this one. I will check it out. Thanks. By the way, my favorite episode was the one where Picard experienced an entire lifetime on a dying planet within a few hours. The purpose was for the long-deceased civilization to share its story with the rest of the world by downloading the imagery from a satellite to a host (Picard). The touching final scene was with Picard playing an Irish pipe - something he learned to do in the alternate life. Title is, "The Inner Light." Hard to believe that episode is from more than 30 years ago.

You’re very welcome. I’m a Trekkie, though my fondness for the shows ended with ST:TNG. I loved the morality tales of the first two series, but I remember and liked the episode you mentioned as well. I’d have a hard time choosing a favourite, but “Yesterday’s Enterprise” springs to mind just off the top of my head, as well as the story of rage, sadness and regret in “The Survivors” episode. There isn’t much on the television that I enjoy so, if I watch TV at all, I tend to watch things I’ve already seen and which affirm the goodness of humans. I enjoy Dr. Pimple Popper too because the life-changing transformations from their disfigurations are so joyful.

That flute recently sold at auction for $190,000.

The funny thing is - it’s doesn’t play, it’s just a prop!
