One GOP Missouri lawmaker defended a 12-year-old’s right to get married during a debate about anti-transgender care legislation earlier this week.
Missouri State Sen. Mike Moon (R-Ash Grove) said on the floor Tuesday that he knew at least one person who got married at 12 years old and followed up with a comment of “Guess what, they’re still married.”
State Rep. Aaron Crosley (D-Independence) brought forth attention to Moon’s remarks via Twitter, sharing a video of the floor debate late Wednesday that was largely met with criticism among viewers.

What a maroon!
Well, child brides are pretty much a sacred tradition in the Muslim world...
*** They grew up with their families in different states. After a number of years, when the children became adults, and were able to care for themselves, they began to living together. The couple is still married today.***
Ok, so the kids were “allowed” to be married at 12, but they didn’t live together as married couples do until they reached an age where they were able to take care of themselves. So in essence, they weren’t really *married* per se. Closer to being betrothed or engaged.
It’s Missouri so he didn’t need to add “only if they’re related”.
Distractions Distractions.
I think he was making a point about
“If a 12 year old is mature enough to make permanently life changing decisions about body mutilation (”gender affirming care”) then why shouldn’t she be deemed mature enough to marry?”
And it got deliberately twisted by hostile reporters.
Damn, a REPUBLICAN said this? Now it’ll get nonstop airplay.
He voted against prohibitions of under 18 getting married a few years ago. A pussified Democrat effeminate rep pushing tranny rights characterized his vote against prohibiting those under 18 from getting married to “voting for child rape”.
More democrat lunacy.
They don’t call the GOP the Stupid Party (TM) for nothing. LOL.
Yep.
That’s exactly right. He was turning the arguments of the effeminate pervert Dem back around on him.
My great aunt and uncle married at 14
Died in their 90’s
And contracts - we don't allow children to make legally binding financial contracts. The whole 'trans' thing is evil.
The Dems are the party of pedophiles so what is so surprising about this clown thinking marrying at 12 is OK?
Bingo!
This country used to send smart people to Congress. Now we send the absolute dumbest.
Considering the context I am pretty sure he was making the point that even if 12 year olds make a decision usually reserved for adults and later do NOT regret it, it does not mean allowing 12 year olds to make such decisions is a good idea.
If 12 year olds are of age to get gender altering surgery or drugs why not let them get married? For sensible people neither should be o.k.
