The coin shows that he was claiming to be king of Britain, Ireland, and France. (George III still claimed to be king of France as of 1783). Defensor Fidei is missing.

When I was a kid I saw a coin that appeared to be one of Charles II of England (but it was very worn and it was hard to read the inscription on it).

Probably whether the English king claimed the throne of France depended on exactly how much they wanted to piss off the French at that particular moment in history. At least until the French chopped their King’s head off, then after that I think the English kings lost interest in applying for that job.
