I have been to many professional conferences with days that included dinners and “after parties”. Back in the hotel by 1130 —
People that go to those things and stay out partying until 4 hours before the next day’s agenda gets rolling are known at such things — known as PUTZES and LOSERS.
A dude in his 20’s showing up in a “look what the cat dragged in” state at day 2 of the conference gets laughed at. The guy doing that in his 30’s and 40’s gets asked “WTH is wrong with you?” usually before a suggestion that a resignation would make things easier for everyone...
These were not choirboys, although I suspect one was trying to convince the other one to pretend like he was for a few minutes...
"Well....as long as I'm only going to get a few hours sleep anyway, I may as well....STAY UP ALL NIGHT!!!! Yeah! That'd be good for me. I don't mind going to that board meeting looking like Keith Richards. Yeah, I'll turn that around, make it work for me. And besides, as long as I get 31 hours sleep tomorrow ... cool."

I have to agree with you about conclusion jumping. Remember the Paul Pelosi case where many of us, myself included, speculated about a gay hookup gone bad, when Pual turned out to be an innocent old man who was nearly murdered by an intruder.
