This law now allows Putin to electronically cut off the bank accounts and identity documents of those who fled the first mobilization, too.

“This law now allows Putin to electronically cut off the bank accounts and identity documents of those who fled the first mobilization, too.”

I doubt anyone who fled Russia left their money in the country if they could take it out. But it has been pretty normal for refugees to be dead broke wherever and whenever they fled. As for documents, it’s my understanding Russians carry them much as we carry our driver’s license. I suspect that for the people in the first wave the law is closing a barn door long after the horse fled. People who waited until now to consider fleeing were not paying attention or hadn’t read their Russian history.

The reason Jews are often in the jewelry business or actors is that they had to flee so many times in their culture’s history that they often had their wealth in gems or their tools in “acting” both of which you can carry with you.

Incidentally, I never understood why the soldiers fleeing the battlefield didn’t just chew their way through the blocking divisions. But if a soldier couldn’t flee his best option now is to surrender on the front line. Easier said than done, I know.
