Unless and until the technology VASTLY improves...

Spot on. I drove a Tesla about a month ago and it was an amazing vehicle. It was the fastest car, light to light, that I've ever been in. However, the batteries still aren't where they need to be. On top of that, we haven't built a power plant in years so it'll take massive amounts of new energy to charge all the vehicles. Infrastructure for charging stations will have to move at warp speed. (The environmental mess to mine for battery material is another issue.)

I'm not anti-EV. I think they're pretty cool vehicles, but we're a long way from them being feasible on a daily basis.

They are feasible IF you live in a large city, own a single-family home where you can install your own high-speed charger, and just use it for running around town. You also need to be wealthy enough to pay $70K or higher for a new EV and charging system. If, like many people, you can only afford $20K or less for a functioning used car, enjoy riding the bus.

If the Biden regime's plan ever comes to fruition, most people in cities will be forced to ride around in mass transit and most people in rural areas will be forced to move to cities.

Why pay hundreds of dollars for a gas generator when you can pay tens of thousands of dollars for a Tesla instead?

It will precipitate a huge move to preserve older ice cars.

Until they force the price of gasoline above $10 a gallon, if you are allowed to buy it at all.

If you put a gasoline generator in the trunk of your Tesla, you can vastly improve your driving range.

Makes me want to purchase several gas powered cars for safe keeping and investment.

If they do that, electricity will be almost as expensive. Even at $10/gallon, it is better to plan trips carefully and drive less than be forced to spend an extra $40-$50K for a car that CANNOT last the 20+ years (too many essential electronics that cannot be replaced at a reasonable price). If you expect a true SHTF scenario, diesel might be a better way to go, preferably pre-2004. Then you can get by on bio-diesel, and heating oil in the northeast U.S. Also, there is no way to convert the trucking fleet to all electric within the next 20 years. Even locomotives that are electric run diesel generators when not on powered lines.

The EPA rule is unconstitutional. SCOTUS has already said that it is.”

Then it is effectively a nothingburger, correct?

Big Auto fears Big Government. Unfortunately they will likely do what the EPA tells them.

You can’t drive a Tesla either while it’s powering your house!

So funny to see the media proclaim that these rules will spur EV sales. Not happening.
Used cars will get more expensive. The dangers and failings of EV cars are becoming more well known, more obvious and the ecologic & human disasters associated with their manufacture & disposal are glaring.

I think they are really cool during a mandatory evacuation due to flooding of hurricanes. That’s where they really shine aa a family car.
Or in a traffic jam in bad weather, another way to get stuck in the middle of nowhere in a dead car.
It’s all fine til the house catches fire....

Agreed. My interest in Toyota has jumped since they stated they weren’t going all in on SUV, and would stay with Hybrids.

Prediction: this “regulation” will fall flat on its face.

Transportation is the single largest source of carbon emissions in the U.S., but it is followed closely by electricity generation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let’s say I buy into the concept that ‘carbon emissions’ (which is clever way to say what they are talking about is the release of the very essential gas called CO2) really do cause some level of ‘planet warming’..... I don’t buy into the concept but let’s say I do.
So if all cars on the road were EVs, now electricity generation is the largest source of ‘carbon emissions’. What about working the whole thing back to ‘per car’? Does anyone really believe that EVs are any better than ICEs? If someone really believes that, make the case for it.... and when that person does, make sure it is an ‘all in’ calculation so not just some stupid comparison between an EV motor and ICE motor. The comparison has to be between everything in the complete infrastructure that is required to make it all happen.
