At one time the entire staff of Mad Magazine was 5-6 guys who farmed out the printing and distribution to a production company. At that time in the early 60s they had one (a total of one!) subscriber in Brazil (I think) who let his subscription lapse.

All 5 (or6) boarded a plane for Brazil and showed up at the guys door, unannounced, to ask why.

Ooohh....I have a vague recollection of one of those fold-ins starting out as a casket and folding into a garbage can.
I think it was an ethnic joke - couldn’t be published today.

A number of years ago, I purchased a CD set of all of the MAD magazines every published .. one of the best things I ever bought. I read them all through at least once a year ...

If you dared to take a MAD magazine to skrool and the teacher saw it, it was gone for good. You didn’t get it at the end of the day, it was gone.

I think my favorite of all of them was Sergio Aragones’ book “Mad About Mad”. I still have it around somewhere — very good to go back to if feeling a bit blue. :-)

(Not as in lib blue, of course!)

Some of the other single panel cartoons in Mad (not just Aragones’) stuck in my mind too, and I’m laughing about them again just thinking of them (I may be “off” on some precise details):

Drawing of a burglar alarm consisting of a row of sharp spikes on a board placed below a vulnerable window, burglar stepping on such; order from:
Dept. YIII!!
Hotfoot, Montana

Drawing of chess game between two gents, with description: Awaiting the next move. Note the intensity. Note the tension. Also note the player on the left has been dead for two years.

Drawing of voltage tester consisting of a cord with two male plugs; order from:
Dept. BZZZT
Blackhand, South Dakota

These days, better to remove some teachers.

My Brother Was An Only Child.......IIRC it had a lot of MAD type humor.

First issue of MAD I ever saw had *Reader’s Disgust* as the back cover (pre fold-in) designed like the front cover of the spoofed magazine. (Jan.-Feb. 1958 #37) I was at a friend’s house and it belonged to his older brother. Became a fan for many years.

LOL, between Mad Magazine and the Cheech and Chong albums. I was the only one in my neighborhood with the Cheech and Chong records, so every kid wanted to borrow them from me so they could record them.
