I can recommend Ogunquit for the beauty, but traffic is kind of a bear- be prepared for long traffic lines on rt 1. Plenty of places to dine right on ocean, fresh seafood, great atmosphere. Walk the marginal way, a footpath that follow He sea for a bit. They have resting benches along the way, bring a lunch and enjoy a cliffside lunch. The marginal way is world renowned for its beauty and relaxing atmosphere. Get to Perkins cove for, dinner one night at barnacle billies seafood resteraunt at the cove where the lobster boats dock In The cove. You can pick,up the beginning of the marginal way there in the cove.

Lots of folks go to Ogunquit as their sole destination for vacation as it has the beauty and relaxation and beaches they seek, but be warned, the gay population is pretty high there in summer, and they can get pretty militant acting if you co front them on anything, and demonstrative about their gayness. But you should be fine if you try to avoid confrontations.

Perkins cove used to,be the hangout of artists who had a colony there way back when- the arts are still kind of big there, but not like it used to,be.

Find a good local there to suggest places to go and things to do- they can help quite a bit. You can fish without a license from the shore, or wade out if you like for huge striped bass.

TE town itself isn’t that big, and not a,lot of shops to go to, but then again most folks go there to soak up the ,sun at the miles long sand beaches. If you stay there, also go north a bit to wells Beach area- another tourist destination because of the sand beaches and seawall parking where you can have lunch. We used to buy donuts and coffee in the am and go down to wells harbor to have breakfast and watch the boats as they went about their business. Always an enjoyable time.

If you decide to go there, tske a day trip to Kittery Maine for seafood and the famous Kittery trading post. Then on another day, take a trip up north (or move up nortH to a. Ew hotel or cabin) to ll bean country (which is also a nice but expensive place to stay)- the coastline is different there with rocky beaches instead of sand. Wildlife abounds in and near the ocean for bird and animal watchers- might even get to see whales, seals, etc.

Acadia national park is another good destination. Make your way to Cadillac Mt for spectacular views- bring a camera capable of panoramic shots- it makes for a great wall hanger photo. Lots of great seafood places to eat there too.

Again, traffic on the main rds like rt 9 are really congested, but if you find the side roads, you can get to destinations quicker.

Portsmouth Brewery in NH for great Beer and food. Wells, ME all the way around. In Kennebunkport there’s a non stop stuff with restaurants and shops. Pretty snotty though with BLM signs in windows of shops. Virtue signaling everywhere. Go to mothers beach, the Cape Popoise pier seafood in Kennebunkport for a $25 lobster roll. That’s the going rate. Don’t go to Portland. Nothing but homeless and the aroma of pot.

The drawbridge in Perkins cove is a big draw for photographers and artists too. One of my uncles worked a billies and we’d stop in during off season for a nice meal every now and again. I was very pleasant experience sitting oceanside having a great meal. Prices are a bit high, but we didn’t go often and saved up for it. As kids, we would finish the meal early, and wander outside tO run along the rocks by marginal way, play down by the docks, etc. Was a great place to grow up

If you're looking for a place to eat in Middlebury, Vt., check out Fire and Ice or Mr. Up's, which are both popular with the locals.

You don't think the crowds will be too much? Thanks for the chuckle.

Sad.y Maine is going woke. Th3y call southern Maine “little boston” or “Boston jr” - the city folks moved in to Maine and have. Per usual, ruined the great small town atmospheres of The towns near the ocean. A bit further inland its still very conservative, but by the ocean, it’s getting very woke.

As Trump said, “everything the left touches turns to =÷×>””

Even Portland used tO be a nice place, but now, nope no way.

There is a tAkeout resteraunt in Kennebunkport that we used to go to that was rigH over a bridge, and we would get our meal and we kids would watch the river below as the fish moved up and down it . There was parking nearby in lots witH honor boxes folks would drop money into. I imagine though that that has now radically changed.

Maine was always such a fun place to take it easy, walk through towns, stop for ice cream or lunches, eat on benches and watch th3 tourists Go by, have dinner by the ocean etc. Lots of outdoor benches to jusy hang out on and enjoy the day.

I used to work at Ogunquit, lobster lb- what a breat experience that was. Free lobster every night as folks would order lobster, tske the tail off or just the claws, and leave the rest. some folks would order it for first time and not eat any of it- I guess they ot freaked out or somehting. Working there was a seafood junkies dream job lol.

If your car just blew a fuse, you can stop at Rankin’s Hardware in Camden, Maine - they should have them in stock. Stop by and say hi for me. /s

https://rankinscamden.com/

My grandparents started that business in the 1950’s. Each time we went there, I always drove up Mt Battie, and if you have the time, Megunticook Mountain is worth the 1 hr. walk up and 1 hr. walk down the mountain. It is a beautiful site, next to Megunticook Lake. You can see Camden Harbor from mountain. Stop at my favorite store The Smiling Cow - many souvenir gifts there for traveling memories.

If you go over to Plymouth Notch, VT to visit Calvin Coolidge’s home be sure to stop at Woodstock,VT. It’s the prettiest little Vermont town. See the Woodstock Inn and the Rockefeller National Park.

IIRC you can get married in Woodstock without a blood test and there is no waiting time. So be careful who you travel there with.

Take a trip up old VT route 7 to Manchester and visit Equinox Mt. You can visit historic Bennington, the Bennington museum and the Grandma Moses exhibit, drive up through Shaftsbury the home of Norman Rockwell, then climb Mt. Equinox in your car, at the top there are nice hiking trails with spectacular views of the Taconic range and the Green mountains

The Clam Shack in Kennebunk Port has the best fried clams I’ve ever had.
Black Point Inn in Scarborough Maine is beautiful with an easy oceanside cliff walk and best chowder.

Make sure you have reliable GPS.
Other than that, they are lovely states in the fall.

I agree that early to mid-October is the best time for foliage in VT, but traffic will be thick everywhere you go. Everything must be booked early.
