And its remarkable that Chick-Fil-A is doing the exact opposite, and absolutely thriving. No kiosks, and EXTRA people in the drive thru line to take your order.
They have figured out that outstanding service makes a difference. McDonald’s service, quite frankly, stinks the vast majority of the time.
Along with Burger King!
Every retail giant has a finite life. Fifty years ago, who would have thought that Sears and Montgomery Ward would be defunct. The first nationwide grocery chain was A&P, also entirely gone.
Why don’t these drive throughs put a damn sign back further in the drive through line. You can’t see the menu until you’re up to the speaker and you don’t have time to look at it. WTH? They probably don’t want people seeing the “deals” on the menu. Just pull up and hurry up and order.
Why would you eat at McDonalds when you could arguably get what is perceived as healthier and better options?
People went to McD's for the cheapness, mainly. For some reason, they thought they could inflate their prices past their competitors for what is perceived as trash food in comparison.
Disclaimer: they are all to a degree trash food but public perception is public perception.
You're right. I remember the first time I was in line at Chick-fil-A when they were slammed - line 20 cars long... I was listening to the radio and almost jumped when someone knocked on the window.
Sure nuff it was a polite young employee asking if I was ready to order. I did. The line moved faster than an eight car line at McDonalds'... and the waffle fries were hot and weren't put in sideways so they didn't spill into the bag.
The feeling? That YOU as a customer - and your time - mattered. It's been a few decades since McDonald's made anyone feel that way
