Anheuser-Busch was American owned. A great American company that later sold out to the Europeans, and became unrecognizable to the American consumer. Beer is not an American creation. The Vikings and other European barbarians were brewing beer centuries before Leif Erikson discovered America.
There's probably a reason why so many American beers have a German name.

Actually, the original Budweiser recipe was a Czech beer called Budvar. The Czechs I met in the 90s were really miffed about it too. “They stole our name and put it on crap beer.”
Real Czech beer is delicious, but only if out of a tap.
