We just re-watched "The Post" (yeah, it's Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep), the story of the Pentagon Papers and Daniel Elsberg. The papers were the hidden report SecDef MacNamara commissioned on the Viet Nam War status - indicating the war was unwinnable and multiple Presidents his facts from the American poeple.

Here are some parallels and deltas between the Pentagon Papers and the recent leak of internal reports on the failing war in Ukraine. Once again, the American people are hearing lies from our SecDef and Pentagon officials where internal reports indicate other facts.

Here is a take-away: The movie hints, and history shows, Lady Bird Johnson had an interest in Bell-Textron helicopters - the Hueys being used in Viet Nam. (Sound familiar that the Brandon Family has business interests in Ukraine?)

Huge differences: In "The Post", the media was used to expose an unpopular war based on secret studies. In today's instance of released studies, the media is complicit in hiding secret documents, and confirming (so far anyway) the lies being used to support a popular war, and the media is helping the government keep the information from the American people.

Some things never change, but at least in the Pentagon Papers (1970s), the press was found to be doing its job, and now the media conspires with the government to the detriment of the American people and the trampling of the 1st Amendment.
