Chinese authorities suggest organizing an international investigation into U.S. biological weapons development projects, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said Wednesday.
“We insist on the U.S. side fulfilling all its commitments and ensuring full transparency of all military-biological activities within and outside the United States,” he said at a briefing, commenting on a Russian Defense Ministry report on U.S. creation of biological weapons components near Russia’s borders. “Washington should agree to the investigation and stop obstructing the international community’s efforts to strengthen the biological security system as well as the relevant legal system.”
As the diplomat pointed out, the U.S. has been more active than others in pursuing military-biological projects while denying any international oversight. “The international community is extremely concerned about this. We are disappointed that so far the American side has only resorted to unsubstantiated statements and failed to bring clarity to the situation,” he added.
Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of Russia’s radiation, chemical and biological defense troops, said at a plenary session of the Russian State Duma on Tuesday that the United States is producing biological weapons components near Russia’s borders, which is confirmed by an analysis of the locations where American bio-laboratories were set up in the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics as well as in the Kherson region.
