True story. In the script the Commissioner Frank Reagan character got rid of the innocent officer in Season 8’s “Legacy,” a rookie cop named Rachel Witten (played by Lauren Patton) in order to satisfy the leftist mobs wanting to hurt the police. Aide Sid Gormley believes that the stop was, “She went by the book, and we’re trained that book’s the bible.”
(Like me), Tom Selleck didn’t like the episode’s unfair firing and he fought with the producer and director to get her written into the series as re-hired late in the next season.
