Punch above their weight? Please explain what Poland did to instigate the German and Russian invasions at the beginning of WWII? Or do you actually believe that the Gleiwitz attack was conducted by Polish soldiers and Operation Himmler is totally made up?
No, of course the little German shadow play at Gleiwitz was a contrived farce.
BUT.
Germany and Poland could have negotiated a peace that involved restoration of some or all German territory annexed (West Prussia) or alienated (Danzig) in 1919 without war, but for British meddling which led the Poles to conclude (falsely) that they would be protected by a superior power if they took a hard line.
In line with my previous post, Poland had every right to take a hard line IF their analysis led them to believe they could stop Germany by force and thus did not need to negotiate.
They chose poorly.
