Fire Slide — extremely high winds here in OK are causing numerous large wildfires in many counties. Most severely hit so far is the OKC Metro area. Interstates and turnpikes in the affected areas are shut down. Route 66 has been extremely busy as a result. There’s one fire in my own county currently, to the north and east of me.
Had a work-related errand to OKC, and had great difficulty getting home, but made it about 10 minutes ago. All I could think about was, did I still have a house? And was the parrot OK? Parrot is fine, and the house is still here, so that’s a double bonus.
Will still put together a bug-out bag just in case. Travel into OKC is not happening, so I guess everyone’s going to go southward and eastward, toward Tulsa. Fingers are crossed. Feel horrible for those who have already lost their homes, especially the elderly who can’t physically get around very well and, in some cases, are trapped where they are.

I am sorry to hear this. I hate and fear wildfires, wind driven is the very worst. If there is danger of fire coming your way, you can hose down your entire yard as heavily as possible. Very wet grass etc if really saturated can slow down or even stop fire. Helps to not have piles or lots of dead or dry grass, tall weeds, brush, etc.
Is it a a dry year, or drought?
Re Fire Slide:
I know what it’s like to be evacuated...and the sense of relief you feel when you see your house still standing — after you’d resigned yourself to losing it all. Best wishes.
