Tom, Check this out. It just came on my YouTube stream automatically after a Rick Beato video I was watching. It was perfect timing for your post mentioning the Beatles. McCarthy 3, 2, 1 Complete

Paul is discussing the origins of Beatles music and playing.

Before Jeff Lynne joined The Move there was The Idle Race.

Is there a Beatles influence? In England? In the late 60's? Ya think?

Just around the corner, there's a rainbow in the sky.
So let's have another cup of coffee, and let's have another piece of pie.
Trouble's just a bubble, and the clouds will soon roll by.
So let's have another cup of coffee and let's have another piece of pie.

The soundboard people are the unsung members of many groups.

I saw ELO in 78’ in Melbourne Australia, one of the best concerts I ever went to.

Back when ELO was more than just Jeff Lynne’s backing band. Kelly Groucutt (RIP), was great on backing vocals.

The people who orchestrated for the Beatles had to go somewhere. They had created a good sound and weren’t finished when the Beatles were.

So why should The Beatles have the monopoly on “orchestrated” music.

This is one of my favorite “orchestrated” songs, from a band that a lot of people also thought “ripped off” the Beatles.

This is one of my favorite “orchestrated songs”...

XTC - 1000 Umbrellas

So what if it’s a ripoff of The Beatles.

Here is a good example of how tight and good they were live in 78’ Sweet Talking Woman from that era https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID5vzXgu1n0

So what if it’s a ripoff of The Beatles.

The Beatles had great influence, I always thought this sounded like the Beatles.

The song incorporated the innovative structure and knack for changing tempos exemplified by the second side of The Beatles' Abbey Road album, released the previous year and a clear influence on this single.

I saw ELO on the beach in Daytona Beach in they’re heyday. Earth Wind and Fire opened for them. It was one of the better concerts I’ve been to. That weekend was a long concert swing. My friends and I drove around Florida and we saw Pat Benatar, 38 Special, Billy Squire, Foreigner, and of course ELO and Earth Wind and Fire.

ELO died when Jeff dropped their string section, followed by Xanadu and Time. I’ll never understand why he did that. The strings were ELO’s signature sound and set them apart from everyone else.

Mr. Blue was our oldest son’s song. It was playing on the radio when we took him home from the hospital after he was born. My wife would sing it to him and we’d play it on our stereo and he’d dance around. This song holds some very fond memories for us and our family...

Time was a good album, though. But yes, it would have been better with more strings.

I have to admit I did like "Don't Bring Me Down"... Bruce! (or whatever Jeff said it was)

The strings were it, though. Nothing beats the soaring orchestral section on "Telephone Line".

I never really got into the “Discovery” album, it was a bit of a disappointment, after the long wait after “Out Of the Blue”.

I have lots of memories tied to music, and one in particular to Mr. Blue Sky. There was this one radio station that played Mr. Blue Sky every morning at 5:15 am when I was on my way to swim practice as a kid. It was a great song to get moving on a cold winter morning knowing that I had to soon jump in a pool they was always too cold. Strange how that is a good memory.

Soundtrack of our lives. I can remember a cold night going to swimming class and I was just appreciating music when "Happy Together" https://youtu.be/mRCe5L1imxg came on, I didn't want to get out of the car before the song ended I liked it so much.
