That’s possible, but I have had two occasions where a shop failed to tighten the lug nuts properly. In both cases, after a couple of days, I noticed a strange vibration and I pulled over to investigate.

Now any time someone else removes any of my wheels, as soon as possible, I check the lug nuts to be sure they aren’t loose, or overtightened.

I also had a car in front of me lose the left front wheel. It flew up in the air and came down maybe 10 feet to my left. I was lucky, especially since I was driving a convertible at the time.

Yep. I remember going to the tire shop which proudly displayed a sign about how they always used a torque wrench on the wheels. When they got ready to run the lugs down with the air impact wrench set at full strength, I said no use the torque wrench or you are going to ruin the drums. (VW) So they just skipped both while I went in to pay. All 4 were rattling when I got home a mile away.
