After today's tragedy in Nashville, I thought of this song, especially, after no person could identify the perp as male or female.

Rik Okasiek was prophetic.

Also I remember my mother, commented when Renee Richards was in the news, that it was not good for America.

A good tune. I saw them at Texas Hall at UT-Arlington in 1980 or so.

My favorite band.

Ric Ocasek would have celebrated a birthday this week.

Get this: a horse at Aqueduct named Ocasek debuted to a second place finish and is regally bred.

The Cars had an iconic debut album in 1978. Just about every track got significant FM airplay during that year.

I lived in Boston at the time and in June of that year, I was at the Strawberries in Kenmore Square just after seeing a Red Sox game at Fenway. The featured album playing was this album by a local band called The Cars. It was such a unique sound that I just had to have that album right then and there.

I spent the rest of the summer wearing out the grooves on that thing. The second album in 1979 (Candy-O) was just as good.

Anyway, below is that album cover as well as the model that posed for it.

The Cars were great. Learned a lot of their songs. So many bands adopted elements of their style.

And ‘BCN and the other Boston area stations played them to death from 1978 to 1984. If I never hear them again, I’m good.

Door to Door, the band’s last album, received little airplay and yet to this day remains one of my favorite albums.

That model (Nataliya Medvedeva) was 19 when she posed for the album cover pic.

She ended up in France for a while and sang as a frontwoman for some heavy metal bands; sadly, she was only 44 when she died in Russia.

Interestingly, Americans know her by her pic on the album cover (and have no idea she was an accomplished singer); the Europeans know her as the singer, while fewer recognize her as the woman on The Cars album cover.

Oh. He married Paulina Porizkova and she was recently in the news for involvement in litigation of his estate.

My mistake , I thought they married. I know they were in a movie together and thought they got involved and married afterwards.
