Few young people or women can drive manual now
I don’t the power and torque defense btw
Agree; the claim about engine torque versus clutches is garbage. Both manual and automatic shifters have clutches.
Lets put it to a test!! Take 1970 era 440 and trans/rear end and put it in a new charger. and vise versa... and lets see which one smokes the other!!
Correct but still we have millions of Baby Boomers and maybe some people from Generation X who would prefer to drive it manually. I wonder if you can get it special ordered at the factory.
It’s called the “millennial anti-theft device”. Better power utilization comes through the use of a torque converter. You never see a loader or bulldozer with a manual transmission. Most large Ag tractors use a torque converter.
I’m one of the few women left, I guess.
My husband and kids can drive them. Also makes them harder to steal. 😁
The power issue is bogus. Detroit was making 500hp 12v71 engines in the 70s without turbos. Put an Eaton or Spicer behind that beast and they would last at least 500k miles. Imho clutch wear has more to do with the driver than engine output.
And the real reason three pedal rigs went away is women don’t want anything but automatics so that’s what most cars were. Heel and toe and double clutching died out as common skills
