The Elite Eight won’t feature any No. 1 seeds for the first time in NCAA men's tournament history.
Nigel Pack’s hot shooting propelled No. 5 Miami to an 89-75 win over No. 1 Houston in the Midwest region on Friday night. Miami’s win came less than an hour after No. 1 Alabama lost to No. 5 San Diego State in the South region.
SNIP
Alabama and Houston entered Friday night’s Sweet 16 games as the last two No. 1 seeds remaining in the NCAA men's tournament. Purdue became just the second No. 1 seed to lose in the first round when it lost to Fairleigh Dickinson a week ago and Kansas lost to Arkansas in the second round. Both the Crimson Tide and Cougars were favored by 7.5 points ahead of their matchups and a win by either one would have set up a rare tournament situation. Just four Elite Eights have featured a single No. 1 seed.

I predicted that none of the #1 seeds would make it to the Final Four.
My prediction to win it all are UConn, Gonzaga, or Texas. The UConn v. Gonzaga game tomorrow should be should be awesome.
Charles Barkley just said at halftime that the winner of that game is the champion. Of course, like everyone else, the rest of his picks were bogus.
I like Charles, the man has moxie.
Why did you predict that all four would be out?
This might finally be the year Gonzaga wins it.
Most.
Unlikely.
Tournament.
Ever.
:-)
Or they may lose today. Anyone’s tourney this year
...but UConn, when it goes on a run in March...
'shame the Spartan's couldn't have got 1 more for Izzo...the Big Ten's only Sweet 16 representative(sad).
Who would have thought that the 3 point shot, chronic poor ball handling skills, and a lack of any teamwork combined with all the best players leaving college as sophomores would lead to upsets?
College basketball sucks like the NBA has sucked for 40 years. 16 seeds beating no 1’s will be commonplace when there are more turnovers than assists and guards shooting 22 ft shots with nobody to rebound.
I wrote a very long reply that somehow didn’t let posted, but I am not going to redo it.
Bottomed line is that all the #1 seeds were very young and not physically mature. The teams that beat them were just as tall, at least as athletic, much more physically mature, play great defense, really pound the boards, and very well coached.
Many commentators had suggested that Miller of Alabama would be the #1 selection in the NBA draft, but his post-season performance has not been that good. He was 3 for 19 against UCSD and did not defend very well. At best, he might get selected towards the bottom of the first round. I would pick him in even the second round. There must be 50+ current NBA players who can do what he does, and are more athletic.
From your typing to God’s eyes.
I’m enjoying this season of college basketball. The transfer portal and NIL has made it much more competitive.
There are no truly great teams this year. Next year, maybe Duke if all their Freshmen return. Even then, they may have problems because most of their players are not yet physically mature.
Final Four!!!! Congratulations, Coach May.
What a game!
I remember when FAU beat the Gators early in the season, I was like “Really?!?! We lost to FAU?!?!?!”
At 31-3 they are doing something right. I’ll be rooting for them next week.
Oops, 35-3. Helluva year!
