Maybe by one definition but service to a country can take many forms. Like
our leaders are meant to be public servants to the citizens - no uniform or military required, plenty of others who serve the country and do it outside military. Any one of service to God (truly doing as God would have them do) and a citizen of USA is in service to this country HE allowed us to have.

Sure, in a big general feel-good conversation about your fellow man, but military service is just that, service, a direct line to serving your country and fellow man, and full of difficulties and sacrifice and dangerous possibilities.

A sort of blank check to your country.
