'It's heartbreaking': 8-alarm fire burns South Jersey church to the ground, officials say

Just after 6 p.m., officials say they responded to a call that initially came over as a three-alarm fire at the Fountain of Life Center on Burlington Columbus Road in Florence, N.J.

After 40 crews from several fire companies arrived, the blaze was soon declared an eight-alarm fire, causing flames and smoke that could be seen for miles.

After several hours of battling the flames, officials say the fire is still not under control and crews are on scene spraying water on the church's remains.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Exactly. I was at a meeting with a friend when he got word that his church was on fire. It was relatively major. They had just bought the building a year or so ago. The fire was due to years old poor electrical work in a storage room that they hadn’t done any work in yet. Totally accidental

Here we go again….first they came for the churches of God next they’ll be coming for christians. Sooner or later we’ll be experiencing bombing of churches while people worship on Sundays like muslims do in third world countries. After all isn’t that what the left daemonic evil wing purpose for letting thousands of terrorist invader our nation ? They’re not here to prosper. They’re here to cause chaos and destruction. I'm not surprised. Church buildings in general are notoriously badly maintained and a lot of remodeling is done without permits. This commonly results in overloaded electrical systems, compromised fire protection systems, and voids and drafts in walls and ceilings where fires can spread throughout the building quickly.
