DeSantis defended Trump - then took a dig at 'porn star hush money'. What's his strategy?

... The Florida governor seemed to go out of his way to emphasise the tawdry origins of the potential crimes being investigated, even while denouncing the investigation itself.

That could be a sign of how Mr Trump's presidential rivals handle a possible arrest and criminal trial for falsifying business records and state campaign finance law violations.

But even oblique attacks risk attracting Mr Trump's attention - and ire. And it wasn't long before the former president fired back at Mr DeSantis.

"Ron will probably find out about this sometime in the future when he's unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman (or possibly a man!) with false accusations," he posted on his social media site, Truth Social. Mr Trump later deleted the post and replaced it with a lengthier response. His campaign team also sent out a press release criticising what they painted as a tepid response from the governor.

Mr DeSantis had been under pressure from Trump supporters to defend the former president and denounce the prosecution ever since Mr Trump speculated on Truth Social that he would be arrested on Tuesday.

"Pay attention to which Republicans spoke out against this corrupt BS immediately and who sat on their hands and waited to see which way the wind was blowing," Mr Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr, tweeted on Sunday.

Trump is far more sinned against than sinning: two false and wrongful failed impeachments; treachery from RINOs; the Russia hoax dossier, which was a joint project of the Hillary Clinton campaign, the FBI, and the CIA; the ensuing special counsel investigation; the Fed concocted January 6 riot at the Capitol; Pelosi's January 6 Committee; and a constant stream of whipped up false claims and accusations.

What did Trump do to deserve this? He ran and was elected as what he promised to be, a change agent. Trump beat Hillary Clinton, of course, who had spent decades assiduously scheming her way toward the Presidency.

In office, Trump delivered four years of peace and prosperity by reorienting US trade and defense policies to favor American interests. Peace began to take hold even in the Middle East as ISIS was crushed, Iran isolated, and US energy production soared. Russia and China were forced to curb their aggression -- so they hired a notoriously corrupt US Senator to defeat Trump through an election rigged by a China-aligned billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg.

Yes, I know, there is still a case to be made against Trump: he had mean tweets and was unkind to big egos in Washington and the news media. Is there anything I have left out on the anti-Trump side of the equation? If so, please specify, with facts, not mood music and vague claims.

It’s amazing to watch a popular governor who everyone WANTED TO LIKE, and most MAGA folks WANTED to succeed Trump, throw his caché away predominantly as a result of horrific political advice and campaign management by RINOs.
