What happened to the hybrid cars? Are they selling? If its battery dies, is there a spare battery to getting it running again on gas, in an emergency like this?

What happened to the hybrid cars?

They're out there. Folks are buying the hype for long range full electric promising 200-300 or more miles per charge lie not realizing so many factors make them maybe 100 mile range. Hybrids are typically much less range, under a hundred miles, but the gas engine gets them to a destination when the charge dies where the ev just dies in place. There's a niche for the hybrid as a short range grocery getter, or school shuffle transport, but that's about it.

hybrid cars are selling like hotcakes ... ALL their energy comes from an ICE ... they’re efficiency comes from regenerative braking, automatic engine stop/start and a relatively small buffer battery ...

I bought a 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid last February as a commuter car, just before gas prices spiked. Even got it for the sticker price. Small and noisy as one would expect of a $25K Corolla. But, gas mileage wise, wow. Avoiding my foot-to-the-floor starts, I get mid-50s to even low 60 miles per gallon--set on Eco mode, using adaptive cruise control, etc. And heat and air conditioning work just fine. I was worried about that with our wide ranging winter and summer temps here in Reno. And since it is a hybrid, I'm not dependent on charging stations.

I purchased the extended 125K warranty, battery is covered to at least 100K, and I get free oil changes for life.

While I regularly dismiss the full electrics, I think the hybrid is a good alternative. I'm happy with mine and recommend.

My other car is a 2008 Hummer H3 with nearly 200K and gets 14-18 MPH, plus sometimes seems to require a new repair every time I drive it.
