PORTLAND, Ore. — Dozens of concerned residents in the Montavilla neighborhood attended a town hall Saturday afternoon to get information and share their concerns regarding a planned homeless community.
“We are saturated with crime, and we can’t take any more crime,” said Elizabeth Litster, who lives in the neighborhood.
“We are up to here with it.”
Litster has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years. She says for the past several years, crime has risen, and she doesn’t think building a homeless community will help.
“They seem to be bringing in higher concentrations of homeless which equals more crime, garbage, rats, needles, and a lot of these people are mentally ill, and they end up being victimized by the drug dealers and the criminals who are taking advantage of them,” she said.
The Joint Office of Homeless Services plans to transform the former RV dealership on 82nd Avenue into a ‘safe park’ – a place where homeless people can safely park cars to sleep in.

Neighborhood is 93% white. In 2022 voted narrowly for BLM, police-hating City Council member JoAnn Hardesty over eventual winner Rene Gonzalez (pro-police) 50.1 - 49.8%. Voted for Joe Biden in 2020 (based on precinct results) 73%. Trump 24%.
In 2024, they will again vote for the Dem candidate overwhelmingly.
Embrace the suck, then, a-holes!
So what jillionaire is set to buy up all of this property at pennies on the dollar, then eject all of the homeless later?
I am no expert. but was crime and drug use a problem in hooverville?
